About this site
The mind behind cam-it.org - a bit crazy, a bit weird :) but you might like to know more about me:
I am a 37yrs old handcrafts master of electrical engineering from Grafenwöhr, Germany. I am native german, and english is my second language, so I hope you can overlook one or the other typo or unusual expression :-)
My parents and me are running a family business, building different kinds of machinery for chemical industry. my first programming skills I collected when I was 20, and ran my own bbs in my former hometown. I was a member of fidonet, and xcess net and I wrote one or the other application for that, at that time still in pascal.
Later I programmed also industrial use software in plc, Step 5 and Step 7 and I developed a process visualization software, mainly for the use of our own products.
One of my programming projects was once a software calculating the energy need for a company producing graphit electrodes.
In 2000 my family, me and the company moved to Grafenwöhr, and we built some new production halls, after we were extending our facility.
About 2 years ago we had to experiance the first theft from our property where goods, which were place behind one hall were stolen. After our company is placed in an only ondustrial used area, and the theft happend at night noone of course noticed anything, and we decided to set up some surveillance cameras.
As I informed myself about the costs, I decided against getting a key-ready system, but to build my own. I started with a couple of Aviptek NC4000 cameras, which soon proved themselfs as real crap and a pain in the ass. The company itself later disappeard, and no more service was available.
I started to write some one surveillance software based on the OCX on which the camera was based, but soon I found out about Blue Iris which also supported this camera.
I did some experiments with other cameras, like Trendnet, Siemens and Aviosys, when I received an email from Y-Cam who wanted me to test out their latest product. They recognized me after I was pretty active in some other forums, so I got one Y-Cam Black which persuaded me that much, that soon I replaced all other cams I owned with Y-Cams.
A few weeks ago I got my hand on a AV-Tech AVP321 Camera. An outdoor ptz camera with bult in autotracking, which was extremly good during daytime - but during night it was a pain in the ass, after it was way too sensitive for the crispy low light image of the camera.
That is when I decided to get into programming an own auto tracking feature.
So that is where I am today :)
Oh, Dwayne is my Internet Nick. There is no deeper meaning behind it, I just use it, after many native english speaking people have problems with properly pronouncing my real first name.
So simply call me Dwayne :-)
