Troubleshooting / Flashing when zooming
« on: October 14, 2016, 10:17:16 pm »
New problem with the latest updates.
BI ver. x64
Foscam and Trendnet cheapie cameras.
When playing back the recorded video (BVR format), when I zoom (using wheel on mouse) either playback or paused playback, the image flashes to normal for a "mouse wheel click" then to the zoom level.
This flashing also happens when zoomed in and dragging the image.  Real time video is fine.

This has never happened before updates, so either there is a new setting that I haven't found, or there is a bug.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Troubleshooting / Camera cycle freezing
« on: August 29, 2016, 05:11:14 am »
First my equipment.
BI "server" AMD hex core 3Ghz., 12Gig ram, 256G SSD.
All cameras wired.
3 foSCAM 8918, 4 foSCAM 9831, 2 USB on USB to ethernet hub, Trendnet TVIP-110 (problem child).
BI ver. (been using BI for 4 years?).

Tablet  Invidia Shield K1 wireless 5Ghz.  Also tried 2.4 Ghz.. no change.  Android 6.0.1  App optimization is turned off, but turning it on did not make any difference.
Laptop Dell Latitude E6500 wired LAN

I have one of my foSCAM 9831 and the Trendnet in a group called "front yard".

My problem happens when I try and used front yard "hold for cycle" on the tablet and/or the laptop, the cycle will start and may go through 2-4 cycles, then the Trendnet freezes.
I know it is frozen because the time stops, and the image is obviously frozen and it always the Trendnet.

This ONLY happens on the Trendnet, and NONE of my other cameras have this problem.

I have tried different configurations of my groups with more than just the two cameras, a different second camera, restarting the Trendnet camera in BI, disabling and re-enabling the camera, with no change.
I even deleted the Trendnet camera and recreated a new camera, and it still froze.
In BI "server", the camera is NOT frozen as the time is still incrementing and the image is changing as if nothing has happened.
No warnings in BI log either, and the watchdog doesn't trigger for that camera.
The status page, under the "webcast" column also stops updating for that camera when it freezes, which tells me that it could be the HTML code has a bug for MJPEG cameras.

Could the HTML code that generates the remote view page have problems with an MJPEG camera?
It is NOT my tablet because the laptop does the same thing.  It also is not my wireless because the laptop is wired.

The cycle is just frozen and the only way to resume is to "go back" to the camera list and re-select the group.

One thing I did notice on the laptop is when the camera freezes, a couple of seconds later the screen flashes and the camera starts running again, where the tablet doesn't do this.
Seems like a timer that the HTML runs on the laptop that resets when there is a freeze, but the tablet doesn't do it.

If I just display the two cameras together (no cycling), the cameras do not freeze and run just fine, it is ONLY when I use camera cycle AND one of the cameras is the Trendnet.

What is so "special" with the Trendnet????
I is old and an mJPeG camera and not a shiny new H264, but it has worked for years and is fine for my application.

Off Topic / Spam posts and spam emails
« on: May 27, 2016, 03:01:23 am »
Hello all;
I have noticed a few spam posts here lately.
I also keep getting spam emails from cam-it that are obviously spam and possibly worse.
A few of the senders are: <> <>

and others.
I know they are not legitimate and the subjects are:   (DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK!!!)

Anyone else getting these?  I am trying to nail down where they are coming from.
Yes, I have scanned my machine (both Malewarbytes and antivirus).

Troubleshooting / Getting login attempts from china
« on: September 04, 2015, 10:22:49 pm »
For the past week or so, there have been many attempts to log into my BI.
Probably just a port scanner from china, but the ip's have been:

This seemed to start on 8/20 and usually happens in the early morning.
Only seems to connect for about 1 minute and of course, cannot log in as I have the admin acct. disabled.

Just annoying and frustrating that these jackasses in china do this!

Off Topic / Cam-it website button
« on: April 07, 2015, 07:34:04 pm »
This has NOTHING to do due with cameras or BI, but about the "mark all messages as read" button on the website.
When I move my cursor over to the button, it disappears, but still functions.
This applies to both buttons.
Also applies to any of the buttons with a light grey background, but not the darker blue button.
Anyone else see this?

Troubleshooting / BI crash during drive backup
« on: February 18, 2015, 04:25:48 am »
First. my backup program is Paragon Backup and Recovery 2014 free.
I have a full backup every Sunday, and differentials mon-sat.
The backups are written to a USB drive.
The backup runs fine and I have been using it for years (earlier versions of course), and BI versions before 4.xx have never had a problem co-existing with my backups.

I upgraded to BI ver. 4.xx  (both 32 and 64 bit) and it has been running great EXCEPT when my backup runs!
What I see is several cameras color bar, then windows pops up with the dreaded "BI.... has stopped, windows will close" message.
This didn't happen before Ver. 4 of BI.
My cpu during all this is only about 50-60% loaded so it can keep up BUT harddrive is VERY busy.

SO the only change was upgrading to BI v4.xx, so I might try 3.66 and see if that runs during my backups.
I will also ask Ken about this, but if anyone has any ideas/suggestions, I would appreciate it.

General Talk / Posting videos of your activity
« on: February 02, 2015, 07:11:10 pm »
Hi all;
Been very silent for a long time, but wanted to request something.

When anyone posts a video that is for all of us to view, please "trim the fat".
Some of the posted videos have ALOT of dead air, both before something happens, and way after.

If you don't know how to use BI trim feature, read the help file!  It is VERY easy to do AND it is included in BI!

Troubleshooting / BI crashes when closeing
« on: December 13, 2014, 09:09:23 pm »
I don't know if there is a topic with this problem, but I have been troubled by this for a while and found out the cause.
Ken and I have been emailing about this, and I let him know what I found and he is working on an update.

First, BI ver. 3.66.0

Here is the situation:
1) at least one camera has "camera properties/record/mark new files for web archival" checked.

2) under "options/clips and archiving/clip backup" "use ftp to backup clips to internet" is NOT checked (OR is checked and there isn't an FTP address setup OR the FPT site doesn't exist).

3) the camera(s) that have the web archival box checked is recording.

When the above settings/conditions occur and you close BI, you will get 2 "stopped responding" popups (at least I got 2).

All that has to be done, IF you don't have an FTP location setup and it doesn't exist, is to UNcheck the archival box.

I found this by trial and error as there wasn't any clear error message that gave any clues.

I know this may be somewhat obvious to some, but I wanted to share my findings with others that may be having crashing problems with BI..

Like I said, I have let Ken know and I think he is going to fix this in a bug release, but if you make the changes to your configuration, you should be ok...

I imagine that the same problem would occur if an FTP site/address was already setup and working, and your FTP went down or the network path to your FTP went down....

Hope this helps!

Troubleshooting / An older app that I cannot find now.
« on: October 14, 2014, 01:27:56 am »
A while ago (probably several years), a member wrote an application that would restart BI while monitoring selected camera watchdogs, restart BI, and a useful feature, would switch profiles depending on whether a bluetooth device was in the area or not.
I do not remember the users name, or the name of the app., and I was "troubleshooting" his app and reporting to him what I found, and useful features that would be nice and he did add some of them, then the trail stopped.

I know there are several watchdog/reboot apps here, but I was mainly interested in the bluetooth detection / profile switching that his app did.

Does anyone remember the app., and/or the user's name?  I think he posted his app. separate from the downloads section also.

Yes, i did try searching, looking around, but this board changed after he wrote it, so that may be why I cannot find it.

Hello all;
I don't know if there is a setting somewhere for this new forum, but since the switch over, I haven't received any email notifications of new responses to any topics.

Am I missing something or a setting?

I always used to get notifications with the old forum... hhmmm!

General Talk / testing photobucket link
« on: October 08, 2012, 10:39:52 am »
I am just testing a link to a picture that I uploaded into my new photobucket account, and see how it works from here.
This is actually a snapshot of my 9820 showing what happens when I walk infront of the camera, and what the camera's gain does after being flooded with IR.
This is the after picture.

General Talk / Newbies and BI customer support
« on: October 08, 2012, 12:06:53 am »
i just have to post this...

I, too, was a newbie BUT I had questions as well.

The first thing I did was to come here and register and READ!!!!

The MAIN thing that really annoys me is other newbies that come here and do nothing but complain that BI doesn't work, their cpu usage is being eaten up, they cannot record, etc.
NO camera software is plug and play!!! Even the software that comes with the camera sort of works, but still requires some configuration, and more to setup several cameras on a LAN, let alone being able to access outside your LAN.
Not everyone has the same level of knowledge and that is why the help files are there AND this forum!!!  This forum has helped me MANY times.. all you have to do is search/read/look, and the info is their.

They also say they emailed support and never get a response....
To be fair, this does NOT apply to all newbie's, just the few that complain alot and don't take a systematic method to repair their problems (notice I said THEIR problems... most of us don't have problems or work them out as best as we can before asking questions).

Some problems are related to the OS (permissions), the complainer's network (wrong cable, poor wireless, poor power supplies, flaky network switches), the computer itself (underpowered CPU, running several cpu intensive apps at the same time, hard drives that are too small, etc.) cheap cameras (foSCAM's like mine are terrible) and more.

First... video takes ALOT of computer resources and depends on many different things like frame rate, resolution, network speed, color depth, motion detection processing, etc.

In order to get decent help, the first thing that WILL kill that is to complain about the software!  :-[
Ken is the ONLY person writing/developing/troubleshooting/repairing/pushing out update.... THE ONLY ONE!  He does NOT have hundreds of people working for him... HE is IT!

I have ALWAYS gotten great responses from him and he has pushed out updates as fast as he can.  Remember, he is also answering all the emails as well!  We really cannot expect him to answer questions about setting up our network and cameras.... just use him for problems with the software, or a bug, or something that doesn't seem to work like it should.
Ask questions... DO NOT COMPLAIN OR FLAME!!!  That will get you NO WHERE!!!

And this forum has many many many VERY knowledgeable people here with all types of experience, network/camera/software/OS/hardware.  AND IT IS FREE FREE FREE!!!!  ;D ;D
The cost of the software is the cheapest around (besides free stuff), and it is a one time charge... NO upgrade fees!   :o

I am NOT saying that anyone with a problem, small or large, should NOT post.... YES DO POST!!!  but to complain or bash will get you no where!
Also, NEVER feel like your question is stupid... a stupid question is one that isn't asked!

So, to end my rant, when a new person has a problem, they should first look at their configuration and maybe run a few tests to determine if something is affecting their system OTHER than BI.
Then, post a question with AS MUCH DETAIL ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM/CAMERAS/NETWORK/OS as you can.  I see post after post where they basically say... it isn't working, can you help me.  We need to know MORE.
Ok.... I am feeling better now!  ;D ;D
