Blue Iris won't connect to the internet

I did a search that came up with nothing so either I don't know how to search or worse...I have a problem no one has experienced before. I had a laptop I had to give up for my son to take to school and installed the newest version on another laptop with Windows 7 on it. Every other program will allow me to reach the internet but Blue Iris. I can use the CMD prompt to ping the blue iris website assuming that is what it's trying to reach. I uninstalled the Avast (free version) and turned off my firewall and still can't connect. Again, sorry if I didn't find the answer that could already be here but if you could give me a couple of places to start I would appreiacte some help running this rabbit.

if you uninstalled try setting windows firewall to let blue iris on internet also make sure your ports are forwarded in the firewall
