Dahua DH-IPC-HFW2100 IR issue
« on: November 26, 2012, 04:00:31 am »
I seem to have developed an IR issue while I was away for Thanksgiving.

All was well since I installed the cam.  Here is an image of IR working.

I cannot get the IR to come on now... here is what the image looks like.

I think it might be my neighbors Christmas light causing the issue....also, I see a strange line to the left.

Hope my sensor is not messed up.

Daytime image looks great.

Anyone know how to force the IR sensors on or test that they are working?

Talked with support and I think it might be a low voltage issue with my cheap POE switch.

That run is 75'.. I took it inside and used a short cable to test and IR lights right up.

Guess I am going to buy a better POE switch  :)

I agree with what John says.  I would ask neighbor to turn off lights and see if it goes back to the way it was before going alot further.

Another low cost test option would be to repeat the indoor test, but with a cable the same length as the one that may be giving you trouble.

If it's cable length, the IR will fail the same test that it passes with the short cable.  If it still works indoors with the long cable, that indicates it's the outdoor lights.

Alternately, if you cover the camera with something light-proof where it is (like a towel or similar), that should make it dark enough to switch, and you can see the IR come on by watching the viewer.

This is something Dahua needs to add to their firmware - IR switching sensitivity adjustment.

I did play around with color VS auto mode and it did not help.

I did the coat test (put it in the arm of the coat and IR light up) with both cams on both long and short cable and both tested great.

I am running a Trendnet TPE-S44 POE switch $49, 30 watts max up to 15 watts per port.

Anyone know what these draw for watts?

Since I swapped the cams (cam1 - problem cam) with (cam2 - cam I did not mount yet), cam2 IR is up and running great tonight with IR on the 75' run.

Christmas lights are on next-door and IR is turned on.  I did lower the cam some maybe that helped.... needed to do that anyway due to oncoming headlights.

Cam1 is also working great with IR on the short cable in the wiring closet.

I did buy a Netgear FS108P $149, 32 watts max up to 15 watts per port and tried it.... same results.  Going to return it since it was no better.

I wonder if this was some fluke event or if it was really picking up that much more light when it was pointed slightly higher.  Is there anyway to run a full system test on these cams?

If this happens again I will do the coat test before taking it down.

I really don't think there is anything wrong with your cam....mine does the same thing due to street lights in my location. You just have to use the schedule thing as John posted here. Like Maxcon stated.....they need a threshold slider for the IR.

I did try a Netgear POE switch and it did not make any difference.  Returning it today.

After testing both cams on the long cable with both switches I was able to test IR fully without any issues any way I connected them.

I did lower the cam some so now I don't see the big glow of the xmas lights and now my cam does not freak out from the oncoming headlights!!!

So I guess I ail write this one off as me being new and probably the xmas lights where enough light to not allow IR to turn on.

Guess time will tell.  Will keep an eye on the xmas lights and my IR and let you know how things go.

When I first saw this I was wondering if outside temps could have an affect, maybe on the electronics, is it starting to get a lot colder where you are at?  (If the christmas lights turn out to not be the real issue.)

It has been much colder since those few days the IR was not working.  I think adjusting the cam down away from the XMas lights made a world of difference and it did not really change my view of my property.

There is also a tread about low temps and I someone has hit 9F and still working.
