Moving From XP to Windows 7: Migrate Settings?
« on: November 08, 2013, 04:06:00 pm »
Blue Iris Options | Export/backup settings on my XP box gave me a .REG file.

Then I opened up the new instance of BI on the Windows 7 box and double-clicked (i.e. ran) the .REG file.

But no joy.... none of my cams got set up.... nothing.... ?

Noted the different registry address of 64 vs 32-bit in http://www.cam-it.org/index.php?topic=2218.0, edited the .REG file accordingly, and re-ran.... but no change.

Time to bite the bullet and duplicate the setup manually?

Hi Pete, new versions of Blue Iris have a Deactivate license button in Blue Iris -> Options ->About tab. You may need to do this first and then follow the below instructions:

Manually
http://www.cam-it.org/index.php?topic=2720.msg11053#msg11053  (or)

Using Blue iris Migration and Backup Tools
http://www.cam-it.org/index.php?topic=2929.msg12130#msg12130

Basics
1) Deactivate license on old PC (on newer versions of BI)
2) Backup or export Blue Iris from old PC and copy "Blue Iris.reg" to new PC
3) Open Blue Iris.reg with Notepad and then Click Edit -> Replace

    *Migrating from 32-bit to 64-bit*

    Find what:     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
    Replace with: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\

4) Install Blue Iris on new PC, but do not activate.
5) Run Blue Iris.reg file.
6) Open Blue Iris and Activate using your License key on new PC
OS: Windows 7 x64bit SP1, Blue Iris v4.3.7.3x64
PC: Dell Vostro 260, Intel Core i5-2400, 8GB Memory, 1TB SATA HD
Cams: Dahua HFW2100 1280x720@10fps, Amcrest IPM2-841W 1920x1080@10fps, Gadspot GS1600 640x480@15fps, Loftek Specter 640x480@10fps, Edimax IC-3030iWn 1280x1024@10fps

That did the trick, thanks!

Somehow the old PC's instance of BI had become deactivated all by itself and, although I *thought* I had already activated the new instance, when it came up it wanted the License Code.

Bottom line, the events got done in their proper order and the import/migration worked.

Thanks again.
