F9805W Antenna upgrade
« on: May 29, 2014, 01:08:40 pm »
I have a 9805 installed some distance from the AP, as a result it is up, it is down, it is up.... I have reviewed a number of posts both here and on the Foscam web site. Updated the firmware, etc. I am now looking to upgrade the antenna on the camera. (9dBi?)  Any suggestions?

Thanks, StuM

foSCAM wireless is very poor... this is a known fact and can be found very easily.

First, how far from the AP is the camera?

Have you tried changing the antenna's orientation?

Have you tried changing the AP's antenna orientation?

Does the signal disappear when you use a microwave oven?  (mine ALWAYS does as they operate at the same frequency... 2.54Ghz).  This is something you have to live with if you want to go wireless with foSCAM... possibly with ANY wireless camera.
Microwave oven use is rarely, if ever talked about, but I can repeat this EVERY time.

ive improved my signal on all my wireless foscams 3 by putting on the 9dbi antenna and bought a new router that has wireless n which by the way helped the most the problem with the F9805 foscam camera is the antenna connection on the camera the 9dbi antenna does not stay tight the F18910W works great with the 9dbi antenna

The problem is that Foscam doesn't offer an extended range antenna for their outdoor cameras like they do for indoor cameras.  The connector on an indoor antenna looks similar to the outdoor antenna but it is different, and they just don't work.
